Creator Drops for the Holidays: One Cart Link, a Code for Each Creator

Holiday creator campaigns lose sales between the story tap and checkout, and then lose track of who drove what in a spreadsheet. A cart link that already holds the creator's picks fixes the first problem, and giving each creator their own code on that link fixes the second.

Where influencer campaigns lose sales

The first leak is the path to checkout. A follower taps a creator's story mid-scroll. If they land on your homepage and have to find the product, pick the shade and type "MIA15" at checkout, most of that borrowed attention is gone before they reach the payment step.

The second is attribution. Discount-code redemptions undercount, because people forget codes, and overcount, because codes leak to coupon sites. By January you're deciding creator renewals on guesswork.

Give each creator a code on one cart link

Build one cart link with the products and shades the creators show on camera, so the link works as their "shop my picks" page. Add the discount to the link itself and it applies when the follower opens it. Nobody types a code, and coupon sites have nothing to copy. The Influencer starter template sets this up with tracking and a 10% cart discount, which you can change.

Then add each creator in the Creators section of the cart editor with a name and a code. Each one gets their own version of the link, like https://your-store.com/apps/cart/holiday-picks?ref=mia, and orders through it are tagged creator-mia (or a tag you choose). Analytics has a Creators tab with opens, orders and revenue for each creator, so you don't need a reconciliation spreadsheet. The creator links docs cover the setup.

Creators on one link share its products and discount. If a creator needs different picks or a different discount, give them a separate cart link with UTMs such as utm_source=instagram&utm_campaign=mia-holiday.

For the landing mode, Shop Pay suits creator traffic, which mostly arrives on phones: returning Shop Pay users can pay without filling in a form. And because each creator's orders carry their own tag, you can use the tag in Shopify Flow, for example to tell whoever manages Mia when an order tagged creator-mia comes in.

Pay creators on the revenue their link brought in, which is easier to defend than a count of typed codes.

Holiday ideas for creators

The advent drop

A creator announces a different one-day offer each week of December. Each one is a scheduled preset that opens Monday at 9am and closes at midnight on its own. Active dates are set in UTC, so convert from your time zone first. If the offer page should show the time left, turn on the countdown timer on the options page and count down to the link's end date.

The close-friends offer

For a creator's "close friends" promo, cap the preset's total redemptions. The first 50 followers get the deal and the 51st is sent to the product page with a short notice that it's gone. That's scarcity a creator can mention honestly.

The gift guide collab

Have a few creators each curate a gift bundle with its own link. The Analytics numbers will show whose picks sell, which helps when you plan Valentine's Day.

If creators are part of your Black Friday push, give their links the same treatment as your email and SMS links: one preset per offer, tracking per channel, tested on a phone before the weekend. The Black Friday checkout playbook has the full setup and test list.

Renewals in January

In January, compare creators by orders and revenue per link open instead of follower count. Renew the ones whose links sold. For the ones whose followers opened the link but didn't buy, try a different bundle before you drop them, because the products may have been the problem. You'll go into next year's holiday season with a list of creators you can justify to whoever signs off the budget.
